Piano

From first notes to full compositions.

The piano is the only instrument that can play multiple notes at once, which makes it a wonderfully rich—but challenging—place for a beginner to start.

With more than 45 years of teaching experience across all ages and abilities, an MM in Piano Performance and a Piano Pedagogy certificate from USF (2002), and five years teaching music minors at Southeastern University, our instructor brings deep expertise to every lesson. The greatest results come from students who bring genuine interest and take practice seriously—and that's the kind of partnership we're looking to build.

Curriculum

Beginning students work primarily from the Faber & Faber method (lesson book, performance book, and theory book). By the time a student reaches Level 4, they've typically been introduced to easier classical literature and are considered early intermediate. Each student sets their own pace based on how much they're able to practice each day.

Students are responsible for purchasing their own music, theory books, and any other materials needed.

Your Instrument at Home

If you have a digital piano, that's a fine place to start. To progress meaningfully, though, you'll eventually want to invest in a digital piano with weighted keys or plan to acquire an acoustic piano after about a year. Think of it like running a race in sandals instead of running shoes—the right tool makes a real difference.

Acoustic pianos in good condition often show up free on Facebook Marketplace, and we're happy to recommend a trusted local piano tuner once you have one.

Lessons & Scheduling

We offer 30-, 40-, and 60-minute lessons. Longer lessons are typically a better fit for teens and adults. For full pricing details, visit our tuition page. Step Up scholarship students follow a slightly different arrangement — see our scholarship page or reach out for more information.

Monthly payments are due at the beginning of each month. We don't offer credits or refunds except in the case of a family emergency, limited to one per semester.
